HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHTS
The following history of Marble Hill United Methodist Church was presented as part of a special service held on October 23, 2005, to celebrate the dedication of the current facility located on Highway 34 in Marble Hill, Missouri. |

1870
Lutesville Methodist Episcopal Church South (Lutesville Church) was organized, and land was purchased for the purpose of erecting a building. |
|

1873
Lutesville Church building was completed. It was a frame building with two doors in front. Women entered the building through the right door and sat on the right side of the sanctuary. Men entered through and sat on the left. |

1883
Hahn Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church South (Hahn Chapel) was organized, and services were held in the original Thornburgh School. |

1884
The heirs of Philip Hahn donated land for Hahn Chapel. The first building was a one-room frame structure with high ceilings and two front doors. The roof was made of clapboard shingles. There were three posts down the center of the interior, dividing the sanctuary so that men sat on one side and women on the other. Kerosene lamps hung from the ceiling and others sat on shelves along the walls. Planks laid across logs served as seats. |

Construction of the new Lutesville Church building was completed. |

1915
The two Methodist Episcopal churches in Lutesville, as well as Hahn Chapel east of town, were separated from the residents of Marble Hill by Crooked Creek and Hurricane Creek. Permanent bridges would not be built until 1922. Rev Charles Baker of Patton, who was assigned to the Marble Hill Circuit, saw a need for a new church. |

1917
Building Committee for the construction of a Methodist Church in Marble Hill was formed. On May 15, W. Kyle Chandler donated a lot east of his residence on High Street for the building site. |

1918
On March 28, the foundation of the Marble Hill Methodist Church (Marble Hill) was finished and, in an impressive ceremony, the cornerstone was laid by Rev H. P. Crowe, Presiding Elder of the Farmington District. Construction was completed that year despite the impact of World War I and the Spanish Influenza. Several of the earliest official services held in the new church were funerals for victims of the flu. Sunday School was held for the first time on November 10. |

1959
Marble Hill sanctuary was completely remodeled and the two original front entrances were removed, making a single entrance and a main aisle inside. A new organ, stained glass windows, pews, communion table and altar were also installed. |

1967
Lutesville Church was remodeled, changing the entire interior and adding new carpeting, altar furniture, and pews. |

1969
Air conditioning was installed in the Marble Hill Church. |
|

1987
The merger of the Lutesville Church and the Marble Hill Church became effective on January 1, and services were held in the building formerly known as the Marble Hill Methodist Church. |

1989
Building Committee was formed for the purpose of constructing a new church building to house the newly merged Marble Hill United Methodist Church. |

1993
In July, an eleven-acre tract of land was purchased on Highway 34; it was completely paid for by September. |
|

1997
In July, the District Superintendent presided over a meeting to approve the preliminary architectural plans for the new building. In December, a second meeting was held to approve the final plans. |

1998
On April 22, the groundbreaking ceremonies were held. |
|

|
1999
On March 28, Palm Sunday, the first church service was held in the new Marble Hill United Methodist Church building. Members walked from the old Marble Hill Church down to the new building waving palm branches and singing. On August 8, a special Consecration Service was held, dedicating the new building to the glory of God. |
